Guest submissions

We welcome guest contributions to the site. Please read our guidelines or jump straight to the form.

  1. Submissions will be included at the discretion of the editor. The editor is very busy, so your submission may be approved on the same day, but sometimes, it will take a bit longer.

  2. Submissions should be original and unusual. Humorous is good, too. Submissions that are already common knowledge will be rejected. For example, you may have just found out that tomatoes are a fruit, but everybody else is way ahead of you. Before you submit something, ask three or four people if they knew the fact. If not, you're probably onto a winner.

  3. The submission should provide all the main facts, so don't say, "I just found out that monkeys wash potatoes! Check out this link!" Instead, tell the whole story. Aim for a minimum of two paragraphs. On the other hand, we don't really want 12-page essays, so tell the story in brief. The point is that the reader should not need to click on a link to find out the key information. The links are provided to support your story and to provide more detailed information for those interested.

  4. Provide at least two links to back up your story. Having one of those links as a valid source will help your item get published. Valid sources include places such as the BBC News website, the Guardian newspaper, medical journals and government websites.

  5. Make your submission engaging. Use active verbs as much as possible instead of 'is', 'are', 'was', etc. Also, make it fun, so give the essential facts, but avoid getting too technical. If technical terms are a must, keep them to a minimum, try to rephrase them using language other people understand or provide the information as a footnote. Remember you're writing for the masses, not Stephen Hawking.

  6. Please make sure your spelling and grammar are correct.

  7. Please use metric units, where possible.

  8. Any submissions which aren't factually correct with supporting evidence provided will be rejected.

Please remember to put your name and website or email address if you want to be credited.
